Students International is a relational ministry, and one of the great joys and privileges of our staff is walking alongside participants as they grow and mature. Many of you who have served in our Tutoring Center or Sports Ministry sites might remember a girl full of life, energy and determination named Fiorella. We have had the blessing of having Fio and her family be a part of our ministry sites and programs for the last 10 years. We have watched as the Lord has worked in her life as she has grown from a spunky energetic young girl attending the Tutoring Center into a confident, determined young woman participating in our youth group as well as playing on the handball and volleyball teams. This week we asked her some questions about her time with us and this is what she had to say: When did you start attending SI Costa Rica programs?

“I started going to the Tutoring Center when I was 7 years old and in the first grade.”

What have you learned through participating in the various ministry sites?

“It has changed me and helped to form the way I look at life. It has helped me to be able to solve problems that arise in my life. I have learned a lot about God, sports, and how to study.”

What are some of your favorite memories of your time at the Tutoring Center and in the Sports ministry sites?

“Without a doubt SI has given me many beautiful memories. The crafts, days cooking and baking, the puppet shows, and many other moments at the Tutoring Center helped me to enjoy my childhood. In 6th grade, my school, SI, and [SI staff members] Willy and Dani had the unbelievable opportunity to go to the National Student Games [like a mini Olympic games for elementary students] with our Handball team. I also remember going to camp and many bonfires, together with my friends, we shared many laughs and even tears. The truth is I will carry these memories in my heart forever. “

Is there anything else you would like to share?

“The only thing that I can share is that the moment I decided to start going to the Tutoring Center and became involved with SI, I had no idea the great impact that it would have in my life. The truth is, it is one of the best decisions that I and my family have made. The SI staff members are not just friendly and welcoming, but they have made me feel comfortable. It is a place where I can forget about many of life’s circumstances or where they help me find solutions to life’s challenges. Without a doubt I would make the decision to be part of SI a thousand times over. Thanks to everyone at SI for making me feel like a part of your family.”

It has been life changing for our staff to walk with Fiorella these past 10 years. We are excited to see what God is going to continue to do in and through her life.
