The Need Is Great

In many rural Guatemalan communities, education is a luxury. Most children leave school by the 6th grade because support is scarce. Sponsorship eases the financial burden families carry. But it does more than provide—it empowers. Parents are encouraged to invest in their child’s future. And together, with faith as the foundation, they walk toward something better.

What Your Donation Provides

Your monthly sponsorship opens the door to education. It helps cover tuition, supplies, and a sturdy pair of shoes. Each child receives weekly tutoring and guidance through tricky subjects. They also hear the truth of God’s Word in Bible lessons designed just for them. Medical care and emotional support are part of the journey, too. Most importantly? They’re known, encouraged, and surrounded by the love of Christ.

How Sponsorship Works

Becoming a Child Sponsor is simple, and deeply meaningful.

Here’s how to get started.

Choose A Child

We have a list of children who have been waiting for sponsors, so thank you! We recommend choosing a child at a sponsorship level you can financially commit to for the long haul. If you have children, it’s also beneficial to choose a child close in age.

Sign Up To Sponsor

Once you’ve chosen the child you would like to sponsor, you will be taken to a payment link to set up your auto pay.

Ongoing Connection

You will receive letters in the mail from your child periodically and will have opportunities to write your child back via mail or email. Our desire is that you’d have a relationship with your sponsor child. We are always here to answer questions.

How much does it cost to sponsor a child?

Sponsoring a student helps cover the cost of their education, supplies, and support services and changes the future for their family. As students progress through school, their needs increase—so does the cost of their education.

Monthly Sponsorship Rates (Tax-Deductible):

Elementary School: $35
Middle School: $70
High School: $105

Special Cases: Some students may need additional support due to unique personal or family circumstances. These students may require more sponsors than usual, this will be noted in their profile so that you’re aware up front.

What does my sponsorship provide?

Each sponsored student will receive a partial scholarship for tuition fees, school supplies, shoes, tutoring, discipleship, access to medical care, and counseling as needed. It also in many cases provided this child the opportunity to even attend school and their families the opportunity to have the burden alleviated.

How long does sponsorship last?

Ideally sponsorship would last as long as the student is in the school system in Guatemala. Should you need to withdraw your sponsorship, we will do our best to find another sponsor quickly for your student so they can stay in our program until graduation. Our goal is to be able to change the future of each child.

Can I respond to my child's letters?

Yes! You will receive a handwritten letter from your student three times a year. You will also receive a general Child Sponsorship Newsletter quarterly. To write to your sponsored child, please write the child’s name and the ministry site on the back of the envelope. Mail the letter to:

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Gifts to SI qualify as charitable contributions and are generally tax-deductible though your own financial situation will affect deductibility. You should consult your tax advisor about specific situations, but SI is a 501c3 non-profit, so tax deductions are typical with donations to our organization.

What happens if my child needs more financial support as they get older?

As noted in the first question, each academic jump does require extra funds for your student (similar to the states as kids get older and involved in more). That increase in financial need can be met by increasing your monthly donation as your sponsor child grows, or we can work to find an additional sponsor that would pay the other portion of the cost increase, giving that student more than one sponsor to finish school.

How do I increase, change or cancel my sponsorship or change my payment method?

To do any of these things, please contact our office: students@stint.com and our staff in the service center will help you make changes to your sponsorship.

Can I ever meet my sponsor child?

Yes! You are welcome to join a Guatemala outreach with one of our short-term teams and while you’re serving, you’ll get an opportunity to spend a little time with your sponsor child! Feel free to reach out to our office for more information – students@stint.com
