Britney Villhauer

Britney Villhauer participated in her first outreach with SI as a student in 2008 in Guatemala through Greenville College (IL). That first experience hooked her on the transformative power of international education and transcultural service. Having served as summer staff several times and later working as full-time staff with SI in Guatemala, Britney continued her pursuit of postgraduate studies, eventually completing her masters through the University of Illinois and later her doctorate through the University for Peace in Costa Rica. Now with ten years of experience leading undergraduate study abroad programs in Central America and the Caribbean, Britney has joined the SI staff as Director of Academic Programs.
Britney finds that the blessing of living in community with people of diverse cultural, linguistic, political, and socio-economic backgrounds has greatly enriched her experience of the Divine and has cultivated a profound desire to truly embody the redeeming love of Christ in daily praxis. Britney is committed to expanding our global awareness and critical consciousness so that we are more equipped to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God. And in facilitating profound encounters between students and those who have been pushed to the margins, we engage the true gospel of Christ to proclaim good news to the poor and to set the oppressed free.
