153 SI-Costa Rica: New Locations for Ministry Sites
Our library at the tutoring center

We recently moved two ministry sites to different locations. The Tutoring Center in Los Guido had outgrown the rooms that La Iglesia Reformada de Los Guido had graciously allowed us to use. Days after we made the decision to move, God provided a two-bedroom house with a back patio area and a large front garage/patio area. SI Costa Rica staff member Krysta Williams has done a terrific job moving the center and organizing the tutoring services we offer. We are thankful for the many new faces, and for the regulars that have continued to attend. Most tutoring sessions are filled to capacity, and special times, such as art class and girls group, are also full.

We are most excited that the children have a place to come that is focused on them. Not only do they receive help with homework, but the Tutoring Center is a safe place where they can be kids and ask questions about school, life, and whatever pops into their minds.  Along with the new facility we have some new expenses, so if you would be interested in giving toward the tutoring center please contact Jeff Dixon for more info.

In December we received word that we would no longer be able to use the house that housed our photography studio and darkroom. As we began to look for a facility it became clear that the best option was to move the photography studio into the storage room at the woodshop.

Teaching photography basics

So after cleaning the storage room and building a new darkroom, the new photography studio opened in February.

SI staff member Dustin Woida is excited that teenagers have been coming to learn photography and to discover their creativity.Dustin is teaching photography and photo journalism and helping these youth discover their skills and talents as they learn what it means to be created in the image of a creative God. In a few months we anticipate having a new problem at the photo studio; what will we do when more youth come than we have room or cameras for?

Transition usually brings some unexpected bumps in the road, but over the last few months God’s grace has been evident as we have moved into these new facilities. Praise God for a smooth transition and for successful beginnings!
