Today’s story comes from our Tutoring Center in Costa Rica!

Our tutoring center, led by Lily Azofeifa, aims to break the chains of poverty through education. We provide a safe, Christ-centered learning environment for the children in Los Guido de Desamparados. Los Guido is a community weighed down by domestic violence, drug trafficking, and the devastating effects of COVID-19.

During the pandemic, most schools transitioned to virtual classrooms. In many ways, this transition to virtual classes leaves behind the children that attend our tutoring center. Those who have limited access to the internet, technology, or a safe learning environment are at a significant disadvantage when learning must happen outside the classroom. This means that Lily has doubled down her efforts and must teach concepts to students instead of reinforcing concepts already covered in class.

While the need in the community has sharply risen, our resources have significantly diminished. For 2020 and most of 2021, we have had very limited interaction with supporting short-term missions teams, our primary source of funds.

Please consider praying for Lily, our tutoring center, and the students that attend! Pray that they would meet Jesus in sweet and new ways. Pray that the children would overcome the challenges of learning in the current environment. Be part of what God is doing through the tutoring center! Come down on an outreach, lead a team, or partner with national staff like Lily by supporting them month to month. Click here to partner with our tutoring center.
