How Stories Can Transform Lives
A photo can capture a moment. A story can inspire someone to action.
That’s the heart of the Media and Communications ministry at Students International (SI). Every image, video, interview, social media post, and written story helps connect people to what God is doing around the world.
While many ministry opportunities focus on serving directly within a community, Media and Communications serves by sharing those stories with others. Through creative storytelling, participants help churches, families, donors, and future teams experience God’s work from wherever they are.
Every Story Matters
Behind every ministry site is a story waiting to be told.
It’s the story of a child discovering hope through education. A family receiving clean water for the first time. A patient finding compassionate healthcare. A local pastor faithfully serving his community. A participant whose faith is being transformed through cross-cultural ministry.
Students International believes these stories deserve to be shared with authenticity, dignity, and purpose. Rather than creating content simply for promotion, Media & Communications captures how God is already at work through long-term ministry and trusted relationships.
Creativity with a Purpose
Participants serving at a Media and Communications ministry site may use a variety of creative gifts throughout the week. Depending on the ministry site’s needs, they may:
-
- Capture photography and video from ministry sites
- Conduct interviews with missionaries, participants, and community members
- Write blog articles and ministry stories
- Create social media content
- Assist with graphic design or digital communications
- Help document the impact of ongoing ministry
Every project serves a greater purpose—helping others see, understand, and engage with the mission of Students International.
More Than Content Creation
While cameras, computers, and editing software are valuable tools, they are never the focus of the ministry.
The best stories begin with relationships.
Participants spend time listening before they create. They learn the stories behind the photos, build trust with the people they meet, and seek to communicate in ways that honor the dignity of every individual. This approach reflects Students International’s commitment to serving communities with humility and respect.
Great ministry storytelling isn’t about getting the perfect shot. It’s about faithfully telling the story God is writing.
Using Your Gifts for God’s Glory
Media and Communications is an ideal ministry site for participants interested in photography, videography, graphic design, writing, marketing, journalism, social media, or digital communications. Professional experience isn’t required—just a willingness to learn, serve, and use your creativity to point others toward Christ.
Students International believes stories have the power to encourage the Church, inspire future participants, and remind supporters that their partnership is making an eternal difference.
When you serve through Media & Communications, you’re doing more than documenting a mission trip. You’re helping tell the story of God’s faithfulness—one photo, one video, and one story at a time.
