Social Work - Women’s | Costa Rica
Internship Start Dates: January or August (Program length ranges from 4-12 months)
Description: Women’s Social Work Interns will work with women from various communities in Desamparados. Our activities include bible studies, craft projects, and discussing various topics related to our communities and business training. We also offer loans to help women begin or expand their businesses. Interns will also assist with workshops on sewing, cooking, and exercising.
Skills/Background Needed: Compassionate and caring individuals who have a heart to see women discover their value and identity in Christ. Basic mastery of conversational Spanish is preferred. Women’s Social Work Intern is open to females only with a background in social work, sewing, beautician, cooking, or business preferred.

Social Work - Women’s | Dominican Republic (Jarabacoa)
Internship Start Dates: January or August (Program length ranges from 4-9 months)
Description: The social work site in El Callejon builds unity among young children and teenage girls through home visits, Bible study, craft projects, and various other activities. The site works several mornings a week running an early stimulation program with 3 to 4 year old children with mild development delays. In addition they run programs for pre-teens and teens. Most children and young teens in the site come because of brokenness, abuse, or neglect in their home. By teaching biblical principles concerning self-confidence, responsibility, sexual purity, wise decision-making, and character development, people's lives are transformed. Participants can expect to be challenged in relating to those of another culture, and will be challenged to do so in a very personal manner. The Women’s Social Work intern will assist our staff in ministering to young girls in the community.
Qualifications: The ideal intern would possess the following attributes:
- Must be female
- A vibrant Christian faith
- A commitment to serve others in ministry
- A team spirit coupled with strong leadership and people skills
- Teachable
- Flexible
- Willingness to build relationships with the women and girls
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work is preferred, but not required.
Major Responsibilities:
- Be in charge of the planning and implementation of one social work class.
- Planning outreach schedules when U.S. teams are serving with the site.
- Assisting site leaders with daily tasks including, but not limited to, bible studies, crafts, english classes, etc.
Supervision: The Women’s Social Work intern will be supervised by their site leader Makayla while at their ministry site and will report directly to the Student Life Coordinator for SI Jarabacoa for anything not related to ministry site activities.

Social Work Intern | Dominican Republic (Jarabacoa)
Internship Start Dates: January or August (Program length ranges from 4-9 months)
Description: The Social Work site in La Joya is a place where women of all ages gather together to learn about the Gospel of Jesus. We strive to make discples of Christ while teaching them ways in which to transform their homes, relationships, and their lives.
Within the La Joya community, the Social Work site serves in La Quebrada, Framboyan y El Oyo, providing them with biblical counseling, crafts projects, home visits, and social assistance in cases of emergency, among other activities. Twice a week the program is offered in a different area so women from farther away are able to come.
During the school period, the Social Work site also works jointly with the local public school's pyschology program. We assist them through "talks", home visits, parent's school, family gatherings. These activites assists the mothers of children who are currently struggling in their school performance and conduct.

Social Work - Women’s | Dominican Republic (Santiago)
Internship Start Dates: August (Program length ranges from 4-9 months)
Description: In Women’s Social Work, the intern will assist our staff in ministering to women and girls in the community. Our staff lead a Bible study and discussion time as well as teach the women and girls how to make crafts which can be for personal use or can be sold to help provide for their families. The site is located in the Los Mangos area of Cienfuegos, and some of the time in ministry sites is spent making home visits.
Skills/Background Needed: Must be female, basic Spanish knowledge is preferred. Willingness to build relationships with women and girls through conversation and crafting is needed.

Social Work - Women’s | Guatemala
Internship Start Dates: January, May or August (Program length ranges from 4-12 months)
Description: In Woman’s Social Work, the intern will assist our staff in ministering to women of the communities as well as teaching them to sew or make jewelry. The site works in El Gorrion and most of the time the intern will work out of the social work site, as well as spending time in communities on home visits.
Skills/Background Needed: Must be female, sewing skills are a plus, but not required.

Social Work | Nicaragua
Internship Start Dates: January or August (Program length ranges from 4-12 months)
Description: The social work sites serves primarily in one community but in 3 distinct ways. They offer cosmetology courses with a set group of women, this group is locked in once a year. They also offer cooking classes as well as an arts & crafts course and now a jewelry making course. They also spend time visiting the ladies individually in their homes, this is the time they spend the most ministering spiritually on an individual level with the local participants.
Skills/Background Needed: This area is reserved for females only as all the participants are females and they spend time ministering to the varieties of abuse that the women have gone through or currently going through. A social work degree is not required, but experience in social work or psychology would be helpful. For the other areas we ask for creativeness and an openness to learn and teach new things within the 3 areas listed above.
