238 Getting to know... Jose Malespin
Jose Malespin

Where do you work? Describe your ministry site:
I work at the Tutoring Center in the education site here in Costa Rica. I tutor the kids, help them with their homework, and study for exams with them. Most of them go to elementary school. Twice a week we have an art class. I also share the gospel in our Bible Time and there is a library where the kids can practice their reading and comprehension skills.

Where are you from?
I am from Nicaragua but I have been living in Costa Rica for fourteen years.

Why did you decide to join the SI team?
I was praying for a job where I could use my talents and share the gospel freely, but outside the church. Also, I wanted to work for people who had lived a similar background as mine and SI offered me that opportunity. I have been working for SI more than a year.

What is your favorite part of your work?
My favorite part of this work is when I serve as a bridge between the North American and Costa Rican culture. I also love when the kids come to tell me thanks because they passed their classes.

What is one thing you look forward to in your future ministry with SI?
Since we are now working primarily with kids in elementary school, I’d like to find ways to continue to work with kids once they are in high school.

Do you have a favorite verse? What is it?
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:9
