For those of you who have been on a missions trip, you understand that it can be a lot of work, even for us that do it full time. Sometimes, we need a little (or a lot) of extra help with the activities in our ministry sites and that’s when volunteers come in and help.

One of our volunteers that has been helping out the longest is Olga who helps out in the Boys & Girls Club in Las Fuentes.

Olga has lived in Las Fuentes since 2013 but didn’t start coming to the Boys & Girls Club until 2021. At the time, she was a stay-at-home mom and didn’t really get out much. She liked to stay home and be with her 2 kids, Isaac and Kalessi. When Isaac was still young, Olga started taking him to the Boys & Girls Club. Around that same time that she began attending the Boys & Girls Club, she also began praying for a job. She wanted to start earning money to help with her kids but didn’t like the idea of leaving them with someone else while she was working. It just so happened that around that time, Juan and Cailah were looking for some extra help at the site and offered to help Olga out some financially for her help at the site.

Olga’s favorite things about helping out at the Boys & Girls Club is being with the kids and drawing and painting. She’s done one mural at the site and as I was visiting the site today, she was working on a brand new mural of the new Boys & Girls Club logo. But she doesn’t just paint murals, Olga helps clean at the site, helps kids with their homework and to study for tests and helps with all the activities and outings they do. Olga is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, helping out wherever she can. Olga also loves to get to know the team members that come down and visit the site. Over the years, she’s made lots of friends. It does help that her daughter, Kalessi, is a very outgoing and fun little girl.

If you ask any of our staff that know Olga about her, you’re sure to hear a lot of the same things. Olga is a hard-working, strong, valiant woman. She always has a smile on her face and serves with a great attitude. She’s adaptable to whatever the task is and always takes initiative to help out. And she not only loves the kids but is amazing with them.

Olga started working with us as a volunteer, but she is now an important part of Boys & Girls Club and is well loved by our staff.
