Things here in Costa Rica have been a little crazy over the last month. As many of you know, we have started on Phase 1 of our remodel project for our ministry and office space. The demolition went well and we’re into the construction part of the remodel and things are really starting to take shape! The spaces for our Creative Arts Workshop and Microfinance ministry sites are starting to look like usable spaces and not just full of old drywall and wood. It’s exciting to see the potentials for the spaces and begin to dream about the ministry that will be done there.

There have been a couple of good hiccups in the plans so far. What’s a good hiccup you ask? Well, the first is that we are able to take some of the old roofing from our office space and use it to re-roof the tutoring center! The hiccup part is now our tutoring center will be under construction for a few weeks. Thankfully, that doesn’t mean ministry has stopped. Vanessa, Carolina, and Lily reached out to another local ministry and they have allowed us to use some of there space to continue tutoring. It’s been a little extra work since the leaders have to meet the kids and walk them to the borrowed space, but it has also been a blessing to have some downtime with the kids during the walks. So even though the tutoring center is without a roof, studying is still happening and the kids are enjoying a little change of scenery.
Another good hiccup is that while doing the roof for Phase 1 of the remodel, they realized it was connected to the portion of roof over the Microfinance ministry site and are going to be laying out the structure and putting a new roof over this space as well. Although the remodel will still take a bit of time, putting the new roof over Microfinance will only take a week or so. Again, that hasn’t stopped our Microfinance leaders from meeting with the women. They continue to meet in our office space and enjoy time cooking, crafting, and sharing together.
Through all the twists and turns of our remodel, our ministry continues and our leaders have made the most of it. Some days are harder than others when there’s lots of saws cutting steal beams on the other side of the wall, but all of us are excited about remodeling our property into something more functional and better equipped for our ministry sites.
