In the humble community of Rabo de Chivo, next to the municipal dump in Jarabacoa, life is filled with hardship. Guadalupe Marte de Jesús, 61 years old, lives with her husband Rafael and their daughter, who suffers from a severe brain condition. Guadalupe spends her days caring for her daughter, moving her between the bed, wheelchair, and bathroom. Her husband, Rafael, works as a laborer, taking on small jobs when available, but steady income is hard to come by. They live in a small, weathered house made from old wood and rusted zinc, and their financial situation is dire.
When we first encountered Guadalupe’s family, they were facing ongoing health problems due to drinking contaminated water from tanks. Illnesses like diarrhea were common, adding to their daily struggles. It was during one of our visits that Guadalupe and Rafael opened their doors, allowing us to share the Word of God with them.
Genaro and Kendri, from our Appropriate Technology site, stepped in to offer a practical solution. They installed a water filter, providing clean, safe water for the family. Guadalupe was deeply moved, saying, “God sent you to our house.” Since receiving the filter, the family’s health has dramatically improved. No more sickness, no more worries about the water they drink. “Now we have pure, clean water, and our health is so much better,” she said, grateful for the life-changing impact the filter has brought.
The relationship didn’t end there. The ministry’s ongoing support has led Guadalupe and Rafael to start attending church regularly. They have committed to putting their lives in order with God and are now preparing to be married, taking important steps as they discover a little bit more each day of who Jesus is.
By the end of this year, we will have installed 35 filters for families like Guadalupe’s, transforming not only their health but also their spiritual lives. Each filter installed by Genaro and Kendri provides more than just clean water—it opens doors for Gospel-centered conversations and the chance to share God’s love in a practical way.
Please keep Guadalupe, her family, and others like them in your prayers. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel, for hearts to be transformed, and for continued impact through the work of our Appropriate Technology ministry.
Together, we are seeing lives transformed through both physical and spiritual care, one filter and one family at a time.
