A year and a half ago, we shared the remarkable story of Kendri Beltre, a young man from Jarabacoa who grew up in our baseball program. Kendri had returned from a baseball academy, disheartened, directionless, and behind in his education at age 15. Today, we are thrilled to provide an exciting update: Kendri has just graduated from Faith Christian Academy in Pennsylvania through a student exchange program, is now fluent in English, and recently played a pivotal role in helping his high school baseball team clinch a state championship!

LAN L BASEFAITHPIAAFINAL061424 05 A Remarkable Story Kendri moved to the US in January 2023 and enrolled at Faith Christian Academy outside Philadelphia. He faced many challenges: adapting to a new culture, meeting new people, and speaking a different language daily. Despite these obstacles, he immersed himself in his studies, tirelessly improved his English, and honed his baseball skills. His hard work paid off both academically and on the baseball field. As the starting catcher for his team, Kendri became their best hitter and was instrumental in their journey to winning the Pennsylvania state championship this past Friday.

Kendri’s growth is a testament to the power of a transformed heart and mind found only in Jesus. His journey from a boy with dreams of becoming a major league baseball player to a young man exploring his God-given calling showcases the long-term transformation that happens at Students International (SI). Kendri has had great mentors, dedicated coaches in Samuel and Dave, and wonderful supporters helping him along the way. As he stepped out of his comfort zone, his relationship with God deepened, guiding him through challenging times and teaching him to rely on God’s plans, even when they differed from his own.

This past week, Kendri returned to the Dominican Republic. While he is still unsure of his long-term plans, he has expressed a deep desire to give back to young people in his community and is exploring ways to further his education towards a college degree. For now, Kendri has decided to work with us at our Appropriate Technology site this summer, translating for short-ter

m teams and helping build water filters. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him working alongside us.

Please join us in praying for Kendri as he navigates this exciting new chapter. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Pray that despite the unknowns, Kendri will continue to trust in God’s plan for his life, understanding that our first calling is not simply to something but to someone, trusting that His plans are better than ours.

Kendri’s story is just one of many that inspire us at Students International to continue our vision of seeing people transformed into the likeness of Christ and discovering their true calling. We are grateful for the privilege of walking alongside these incredible individuals and witnessing the transformative power of Jesus to make us a new creation.
